CALL FOR ABSTRACTS: European Marine Biology Symposium 53

The EMBS53 Organizing & Scientific Committee are pleased to welcome your abstract submissions for oral papers and scientific posters. We particularly welcome papers on ‘Marine Biology from a Historical Perspective’, ‘Science in a Modern Era’, ‘Marine and Coastal Citizen Science’ and ‘Science in the North Sea’. Submission can take place till 15 April 2018. Please note that no extensions to the deadline will be granted and that presenting authors are responsible for registration, travel and accommodation costs. Presenters who are unable to attend should arrange for another qualified individual to present the paper or poster in question (with notification to the Organizing Committee).

The deadline to apply is set on 15 April 2018.
Please note that the mentioned date is the final deadline. There will be NO extension of this deadline. Late applications for oral and poster presentations will not be considered. You will be informed on the acceptance of your abstract per mail no later than 15 May 2018.

What should your abstract look like?

The form to submit your abstract is divided in separate fields:

  • Title: give your abstract an appealing title that arouses curiosity and encourages to read the full abstract. The abstract title should contain no more than 120 characters including spaces.
  • Abstract: write an abstract on your work, containing no more than 500 words including references. Only plain, bold and italic text is allowed, as well as subscript and superscript. All other layout will not be exported. Images are not allowed. Please note that this abstract must be camera-ready, i.e. the EMBS53 organizing committee does not foresee any editing, the author is fully responsible for the contents and language.
  • Keywords: well thought out keywords – embedded in the full text - make sure your abstract is easily detected by interested readers.
  • Authors: for each author, the full name and affiliation must be submitted. The order in which you submit, is the order in which they will be published in the book of abstracts. If an author has multiple affiliations, please submit a new author submission for each affiliation.

EMBS53 Special Issue in the Journal of the Marine Biological Association

We are glad to announce that the Journal of the Marine Biological Association (JMBA) kindly offers to publishing a special issue of the EMBS53 conference. Everyone who contributes a poster or an oral presentation at the EMBS53 is invited to submit a manuscript. All manuscripts will go through a peer-review process (General JMBA guidelines apply). The deadline for manuscript submission is 7 December 2018, with publication of the full Special Issue in October 2019. All manuscripts that are processed before October 2019, will already be made available as an 'early view' on the JMBA website.

Oral presentation guidelines

Oral presentations should not exceed 15 minutes, including time for questions. Speakers will not be permitted to exceed the maximum time given, therefore they are encouraged to allow a few minutes for questions.
Speakers will be signaled 5 minutes before their allocated time.

Poster guidelines

Poster should be A0 format. Portrait size: maximum width = 90 cm, maximum height = 120 cm
